Economic Impact Assessment of Brewing Industry in Malaysia

Economic Impact Assessment of Brewing Industry in Malaysia is a joint study by the Southeast Asia Public Policy Institute and the University of Nottingham Malaysia, commissioned by the Confederation of Malaysian Brewers Berhad (CMBB).

The study evaluates CMBB’s impact on Malaysia across economic, environmental, and social dimensions. It examines the role of the brewing industry across the wider value chain and assesses key policy scenarios relevant to the future of the industry and Malaysia’s broader economy.

The analysis applies an Input–Output (IO) model as the main approach to quantify inter-sectoral linkages and economy-wide effects. A Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model is also used to cross-check the findings and ensure consistency across modelling approaches.

The aim of this study is to underline the brewing industry’s contribution to Malaysia’s economy and provide policy recommendations in response to future scenarios that the industry is likely to face.
